Drumheller!

We decided to take a short trip to Drumheller this week. We started off our journey by stopping by Denny's for breakfast! We were originally planning on just "walking" into the hotel and booking one when we got there, but thinking of the unknown stresses me out a bit, so I felt it prudent to book ahead of time, so I actually booked the room in the Denny's parking lot.

Alberta is so beautiful and the drive is so lovely with the blossoming fields and farmland.  I tried to capture a photo in the car but it didn't really work out (boo)

I just love the bright yellow canola fields
When we got to Drumheller, we immediately went to the Royal Tyrrell Museum. We ate lunch in the parking lot (we packed it in the cooler) and then headed inside. It was so busy! I've been there a few times and I don't recall it ever being that busy! Woo wee!

The girls are still a bit too young to really enjoy a museum but I think they did like seeing all the dinosaurs everywhere. Lily mostly ran through all the exhibits and Ella tried talking to some of the displays. Afterwards, we paid a visit to the store, and of course bought a couple treasures. It was a great day and then we headed back to the hotel. The girls LOVE hotels! Justin overheard the receptionist and she was saying there was a big annual passion play and all the hotels were booked up- I'm so glad I booked at Denny's! Especially the room we got- it had two queen beds and a pull out couch. After we got settled in the place, I proceeded to find Walmart because I forgot to pack my swimsuit bottoms and we wanted to utilize the pool at the hotel. I also bought some dinner and then we went swimming. Getting the kids to sleep was a struggle at first, but then they finally just dropped. The girls shared the couch bed and we brought the playpen for Theo. Justin and I each had a bed to ourselves. ;P

Thought this was cool: (Last year and this year's comparison photo) :)

The next day, we had a delicious continental breakfast, checked out but before we proceeded to go back home, we decided to take a trip to the Hoodoos. We went for a nice walk enjoying the sunshine and went looking for dinosaur fossils. We had so much fun and spent a good one or two hours just walking the Badlands. We didn't find any fossils though lol. Some petrified wood and lots and lots of rocks!

Fort Edmonton

We took a spontaneous trip to Fort Edmonton Park! It was one of the only time we've ever been there and it wasn't blasting hot! The weather was actually perfect, it rained a bit here and there and started pouring when we got there.

We did all the classics; we boarded a train, went back in time to the Fort and the streets. We brought fixings for sandwiches because we always purchase a loaf of bread at the bakery and we also bought soup this time since the weather was cool. It was so tasty! We find a picnic table in the back and enjoy our lunch in the quiet.

We saw the farm animals, and the horses. Lily was a bit disappointed that the pony rides weren't running yet but she had fun nonetheless watching them. There was even a brand new lamb that was born the day before!

We ended by going to the fair and we rode the carousel a few times. Then we topped it off by taking a visit to the candy store. It's always a great time at Fort Ed!

On the train!

Allan Beach Resort

We took the kids to Allan Beach on Hubbles Lake near Stony Plain. It's a lovely private beach with clean sand and clean water. We met up with a couple other families from my Young Living team and we had a great time!

The kids loved the water and the sand and they still were talking about their beach adventures for weeks to come. I love how little adventures can make them so happy.

Jurassic Forest

     .
We went to Jurassic Forest today. It was a long awaited trip because both the girls love dinos! (Ella has been talking about in for almost a year now) It is a pretty cool place with boarded walkways and animatronic dinosaurs along the way. We also learned about Alberta's plant and wildlife as there was information about different species along the paths as well. We packed a lunch and spent the whole day there. Ella's favourite dinosaur is the T-Rex and Lily's favourite are the "long necks."

The only drawback is that the park is basically built around a swamp so there a like a gazillion mosquitoes! (Which are also huge!) But thankfully I was prepared with a homemade bug spray and Purification oil :)

Happy Birthday Canada!

This past weekend we went camping at our auntie and uncle's lake lot at Alberta Beach. It was quite the adventure! In some good ways and some not so good lol. It was absolutely beautiful and there's just something about waking up in the early hours of the day to bird's chirping, fresh, crisp air, and quiet. Absolute silence. For the two mornings, both Justin and I woke up before everyone else and it was so lovely.

The girls had a blast, and I think Theo did too. He doesn't complain too much at all. In fact, you can say that he's a ... happy camper...

Auntie and Uncle have kayaks so we were able to ride those on the lake and the girls had so much fun. We went on lots of walks, went to the playground, went to a garage sale, and of course went to the beach. (Which was packed!)

There was a bunch of things going on in town for Canada Day and of course they had some fireworks! We got to watch them after the kiddos were asleep.

I love camping and the adventure, but holy man there was a ton of packing! Our van was strategically stacked like Tetris (thanks to Mister- he's so clever). Next time, we will probably go somewhere for a little longer, like 3 or 4 nights to make all the packing worth while.
